Sure Dad Says

Food For Thought

There’s an old adage, “you are what you eat.” And in fact, truer words have never been spoken. Think about it: there is nothing else that dramatically influences your health, well-being and overall makeup than the food you ingest. It not only fuels us, but it keeps us alive and makes us what we are, good or bad.

Food For Thought Burger-DadSo it should come as no surprise that our eating habits and diets also have a lot to do with our general appearance. We humans come in all shapes and sizes, and the things we put into our mouths help make us all very different.

Here are some obvious examples of the cause-and-effect relationships with the food we eat:

For instance, women with pear-shaped figures clearly eat a lot of pears. It’s hard to argue otherwise.

Similarly, barrel-chested men typically dine on, well, barrels. Also, if they eat too many IPOs, they become rather stocky. It’s very likely that muscle-bound guys ingest a great deal of seafood, namely mussels. Fortunately, they throw away the shells; otherwise, they would simply become a shell of their former selves. (Sorry, I just couldn’t resist that one.)

Conversely, those who overdo it on shrimp can see their bodies eventually shrink away. (Get it? They become shrimpy kinda guys.)

How on earth do those lovely ladies maintain their hourglass figures? You guessed it. While the rest of us snack on candy and potato chips, they’re sneaking bites of actual hourglasses. That’s why they are also good at telling time.

What about those very tall gents nicknamed Stretch? It’s due to the rubber bands in their diet.

Now you wonder how some boys develop cauliflower ears. I’m sure it’s from an overabundance of cauliflower at dinner. Of course, those with Dumbo the Elephant ears are evidently gorging on way too many ears of corn.

Most of us are very critical of our own appearance. Here’s a suggestion for the women who are unhappy with their apple-shaped bodies. Just find another fruit to eat. It’s not that complicated.

So the bottom line is to carefully study the food you crave before it finds its way into your mouth. To put it rather simply, if you want to look like a Big Mac….
